West Walk Path

About the Photo Sequence
During the Yard Electric project, I decided I need to enclose and hide my electrical panel on the side of the house. Besides the main circuit box, there's the satellite TV wire connections, telephone and sprinkler system control boxes. That makes the wall look quite ugly! A future project will be solar panels for the roof and I need a safe place for the solar control boxes. A shed-like enclosure is on the drawing board but the west rock walk path is in the way. So this project is to move the west walk path further from the house.

Photo Details
This photo sequence contains 16 frames. Each frame is a finite 1024 pixels wide but height was left to its own based on the crop. I based the picture size on an email program's display window asuming that the picture would not be automatically resized to fit. This technique kept the file size down, the largest being just less than 400k making it easy to send and receive through email. The file names are also numbered so they'll display in numerical order. All photos were taken with a Nikon D80.

West Walk Path

Here's the original outlay of the walk path.

First boundary board is placed 10 feet parallel to the house foundation.

Second boundary is placed parallel 4 1/2 feet from the first board.

The straight section is in place, and the dirt leveled and compacted.

Moving the rocks over was a chore and a half! 10 years of silt forced me to
strain the rocks in a wheel barrow of water. Time consuming but worth it.

Now to connect the SW corner.

This corner is complete. The project is starting to look a bit more professional.

And from the front of the house it looks real good!

The north walkpath (back yard) had to be adjusted to connect at the NW corner.
To widen the pathway I had to move the sprinkler pipes.

The corner is starting to take shape.

Partially done, this section is 5 1/2 feet wide.
I still need to connect at the corner.

To build up the ground in this corner I imported dirt excavated from the driveway.
Loaded with rocks it was perfect for placement below a rock path.

This corner was challenging. I cut grooves into the bender board
so it wouldn't break as I bent it around the tight corner.
Cutting too many, I filled many of the grooves
with wood to strengthen the board. I'm learning!

Edges complete, I leveled the walk area and soaked it a few times to pack it down.

Completed and filled in with rocks, this looks a lot better than when I started.
I now have room for the "shed structure" around the electrical components.

Notice the outdoor shower pad that was constructed during this project.
This took 9 months to complete with many delays and two other projects in the way.
